This piece of art is one of my all-time favorites. First, there is the basic question...do you want to go this way or that way? Then there's the evolution...At first, it was a landscape sketch that was outlined with charcoal. Then, it was blocked off to preserve the original lines and painted over. Lastly, the blocking was removed. I am fascinated by the fact that you can see the painting's evolution from start to finish by keeping the original sketched lines visible.
